Our Aim and Prayer
Our aim and prayer
Since 1946 the Latimer Fellowship (originally the Evangelical Churchman’s Fellowship) has been working to advance evangelical thought, through Bible-using ministries in Anglican churches in New Zealand.
In line with that intention, our prayer to God, our Heavenly Father, is that He would raise up men and women for Bible-teaching ministries in Anglican churches to proclaim the name of Jesus for generations to come.
Seeking to steward the gospel faith and funds entrusted to the Fellowship, 2025-26 saw us re-configure as a Trust Board with a Trust Deed, as an incorporated entity and NZ Charity.

Our History
Our Fellowship began in 1946 as the Evangelical Churchmen’s Fellowship.
Later, we adopted the name of the renowned preaching bishop and martyr of the English reformation, Hugh Latimer (1485-1555).

William Orange could be described as the father of the Anglican evangelical movement in Christchurch. He was among the founders of the Evangelical Churchmen’s Fellowship in 1946.
Though the influence of William Orange’s ministry was felt throughout New Zealand and further afield, especially in the mission fields of the New Zealand Church Missionary Society, his ministry was carried out almost entirely in Christchurch.
The aim of the Fellowship was to encourage evangelical thought amongst Anglicans throughout New Zealand. This is still the Fellowships’ aim today.
